To contemplate means “to look at or view with continued attention; observe or study thoughtfully.” I take this further … I use my camera to express the true nature of the world, free of any narrative or associations.

It takes effort to see with an open mind, and being present in the moment makes it possible. Remember, when someone claims that “this is interesting” or “it looks like such and such,” they are applying filters that exist only in their own minds, not in what is being observed.

Like “meditation with your camera,” a great phrase coined by Andy Karr and Michael Wood in their book “The Practice of Contemplative Photography.” For more information, visit www.miksang.com.
